Every Saree Tells a Story

At Urmiweaves, we put our heart into making every moment with our sarees beautiful, comfortable, and flexible. The making of a Sambalpuri cotton saree is a labor of love, involving the entire weaver’s family in the intricate "Bandhakala" or "Tie-dye" process. Each thread is carefully tie-dyed and colored according to the design, before being woven into a masterpiece by our skilled artisans. This process can take up to a month, reflecting the dedication and effort poured into every saree.

Sambalpuri sarees are more than just attire; they embody the stories of the art and artisans who create them. Ragini, the founder of Urmiweaves, grew up immersed in this beautiful tradition, watching her family, including her grandmother, weave these extraordinary sarees. Her childhood experiences fuel the passion and authenticity behind every Urmiweaves creation.

TRUE HANDLOOM MARK

Every saree from Urmiweaves proudly carries the Handloom Mark tag from the Government of India, a symbol of authenticity and traditional craftsmanship. As a true handloom product, you may notice certain unique characteristics:

  • Loose Threads: These can be found on the backside of the Pallu/Anchal, a natural outcome of the handloom weaving process.
  • Irregularities: Slight variations in the body and border of the saree are typical and add to its unique charm.
  • Pin Marks: Sambalpuri cotton sarees often feature pin marks at equal distances along the top or bottom of the fabric, known as selvedge, reflecting the meticulous care taken during weaving.

These features are not flaws but rather signatures of the handloom tradition, ensuring that each Urmiweaves saree is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
